Cleaning a brass leather stamp or branding iron requires only a few simple steps:
First, use a soft-bristled brush or an old toothbrush to remove any loose debris or dust from the surface of the stamp.
Next, mix a solution of warm water and mild soap in a bowl or container. Dip the brush into the solution and gently scrub the surface of the stamp. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the brass.
Rinse the stamp with clean water and use a soft cloth to dry it off. Make sure to remove any remaining soap residue.
If there are still stubborn stains or debris on the stamp, you can try using a brass polish or a mixture of vinegar and salt. Apply the polish or mixture with a soft cloth and rub gently until the stain is removed. Rinse with clean water and dry the stamp.
When it comes to die cut machines, there are many options on the market, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In this article, we'll take a look at four popular desktop die cut machines: our own LW Desktop Die Cutting Press, Sizzix Bigshot, Accucut Mark-5, and Tippmann Clicker 1500. We'll compare these models based on several key factors, including cutting ability, ease of use, durability, and price.
LW Desktop Die Cutting Press is a versatile machine that can cut through a variety of materials, including paper, fabric, leather, thin soft metal and more. It has a compact design and is easy to use, with a manual crank that applies consistent pressure for precise cuts. It is fully compatible with our custom steel rule dies, allowing users to create unlimited custom designs. It is also affordable and relatively small in foot-print, making it a great choice for casual to semi-professional crafters. Price: $398.00
The Sizzix Bigshot is a popular choice among crafters due to its versatility and affordability. It can cut a wide range of materials, including paper, cardstock, fabric, and even thin metal sheets. It also comes with a choice of a variety of pre-designed dies and embossing folders, allowing users with limited design background to kick start their projects. The Bigshot is easy to use, with a simple crank handle and a compact design that makes it easy to store when not in use. However, the Bigshot may not be the best choice for heavy-duty use or for cutting thicker materials, as it has a maximum cutting thickness of only around 1/8". Price Starter-Pack $1159.00
The Accucut Mark-5 is similar to Sizzix Bigshot. It can cut through a wide range of materials, including paper, cardstock, and light weight leather. It also has a larger cutting surface than the Bigshot, making it ideal for larger projects. The Mark-5 is easy to use, the patented roller design makes cutting fast and easy. It is also built to last, with a sturdy steel construction. However, it is more expensive than the LW Die Cutting Press and Bigshot. Price: $480.00
The Tippmann Clicker 1500 is a professional-grade die cut machine designed for industrial use. It can cut through a wide range of materials, including leather, fabric, and foam, and has a large cutting surface for bigger projects. The Clicker 1500 is easy to use, with a simple hand lever that applies consistent pressure for precise cuts. It is also built to last, with a sturdy steel construction that can withstand heavy use. However it is the most expensive among these 4 products and may be too large or expensive for casual / semi-professional users. Price: $4990.00
In summary, each of these four die cut machines has its own strengths and weaknesses. Our LW Desktop Die Cutting Press is a versatile and affordable option for crafters, while the Sizzix Bigshot & Accucut Mark 5 is also affordable, but may not be the best choice for many due to small cutting thickness that limits the material it can cut. Tippmann Clicker 1500 is a professional-grade machine designed for heavy-duty use in industrial settings.
When choosing a die cut machine, it's important to consider your needs and budget, as well as the materials you'll be cutting.
Embossing leather with a custom brass stamp and hammering handle is a straightforward process that requires some basic tools and techniques.
Here's a step-by-step guide to embossing leather with a custom stamp:
Click here to check out our complete line-up of leather embossing tool.
Start by choosing the leather you want to emboss. The leather should be smooth and flat to ensure that the embossing comes out crisp and clear. Hammering works best with vegetable tanned leather. If you work with chrome tanned leather, electric branding/embossing is recommended.
Prepare your stamp by attaching it to a hammering handle. The handle will help you apply the necessary pressure to create the embossed design.
Dampen the leather with water. This will help soften the leather and make it more pliable, which will make it easier to stamp.
Place the leather on a hard surface, such as a wooden cutting board or anvil.
Position the stamp on the leather where you want to create the embossed design.
Using the hammering handle, strike the stamp firmly and evenly, applying enough pressure to create a deep impression in the leather.
Once you've finished stamping the design, allow the leather to dry completely.
If desired, you can apply a leather finish or dye to enhance the appearance of the embossed design and protect the leather.
Overall, embossing leather with a custom stamp is a simple process that can add a personal touch to your leather projects. With a little practice and the right tools, you can create beautiful and unique embossed designs on all kinds of leather items.

]]>Freeze branding can be a relatively painless and very effective form of permanent livestock identification.
Here are the general materials and methods for freeze branding livestock with a custom-made brass freeze branding iron.
Materials:
Methods:
Prepare the branding iron: Your branding iron should be custom made from brass with the desired design or logo etched on the surface. You can also purchase a pre-made branding iron with your design or logo. Once you have your branding iron, you will need to chill it in liquid nitrogen or dry ice and alcohol for at least 10-15 minutes to reach the desired temperature.
Prepare the livestock: Choose a safe and secure location for the branding process, and ensure that the animal is properly restrained in a chute or squeeze chute. Use gloves and protective clothing when handling the animal.
Clean the branding site: The area where the brand will be applied should be shaved, clean, and dry. Use a towel or paper towel to clean the area with water or an antiseptic solution to remove any dirt, debris, or oils.
Apply the branding iron: Place the branding iron on the designated spot on the animal's skin and hold it firmly in place for a predetermined time (usually between 5-15 seconds, depending on the species and age of the animal). Use a timer or stopwatch to ensure that the iron is applied for the correct amount of time.
Remove the branding iron: After the required time has passed, carefully remove the branding iron from the skin and place it back in the liquid nitrogen or dry ice and alcohol to cool it down for the next application.
Observe the branding site: The branding site will appear white or light-colored immediately after the brand is applied, but will gradually darken over time. The hair in the branded area will eventually fall out, leaving a permanent white or light-colored brand on the animal's skin.
Provide aftercare: After the branding is complete, provide appropriate aftercare for the animal, including pain management, antibiotics, and monitoring for any signs of infection or complications.
In summary, freeze branding livestock with a custom-made brass branding iron involves chilling the iron, preparing the animal and the branding site, applying the iron to the skin for a predetermined time, observing the branding site, and providing aftercare. If you are in doubt of the process, it is important to seek the assistance of a licensed veterinarian or an experienced professional for this procedure.
]]>Gold foiling leather with your logo or custom design is a popular way to add a touch of luxury and elegance to leather products such as wallets, journals, and even furniture. One way to achieve this effect is by using an electric branding iron or heating arbor press.
In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of gold foiling leather with a custom logo stamp.
Materials needed:
Step 1: Preparing the surface
Before starting, make sure the leather surface is clean and free of any dirt or dust. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the leather surface to ensure it is clean and smooth. Hot foiling works best with leather with a smooth surface like vegetable tanned leather.
Step 2: Heating the custom leather stamp with electric branding iron.
It's important to make sure that the branding iron is at the right temperature to transfer the gold foil onto the leather surface. We recommend an electric branding iron or heating arbor press that comes with temperature control. Plug in the branding iron with the custom made leather stamp fitted and set the temperature to 120-140°C.
Step 3: Placing the hot foil sheet
Once the electric branding iron reached the set temperature (120-140°C), it's time to apply the hot foil paper onto the surface. Carefully place the foil sheet over the surface. Make sure that the foil is evenly applied to the surface.
With an heating arbor press, foiling paper can be dispatched with a foil paper feeder that makes this process much easier.
Step 4: Using the electric branding iron
Now it's time to use the electric branding iron/heating arbor press.
Hold the branding iron with the custom leather stamp over the hot foil sheet and press down gently. Hold the branding iron in place for a few seconds to allow the heat to transfer the gold foil onto the leather surface. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or leave the branding iron in one spot for too long, as this may cause the leather to burn.
Step 5: Removing the branding iron and gold foil sheet
Once the gold foil has been transferred onto the leather surface, carefully remove the branding iron and the gold foil sheet. The gold foil should now be stuck to the leather surface.
Step 6: Finishing up
If there are any excess gold foil bits, use a soft cloth to gently remove them.
And that's it! Your leather piece is now gold foiled and ready to shine!
In conclusion, gold foiling leather with an electric branding iron is a simple yet effective way to add a touch of luxury to your leather products. With the right tools and some patience, you can create beautiful, gold-foiled leather items with your custom logo or design that are sure to impress.
