Freeze branding marks a horse permanently using extreme cold instead of heat. It is used on horses, cattle and other large livestock.
The iron is chilled to between −50 and −150 °F with liquid nitrogen or dry ice, then held against the skin for 10 to 60 seconds depending on the horse and the size of the mark. The cold kills the hair follicles, and the hair grows back white in the shape of the iron.
Because nothing is burned and the skin is never broken, it causes less pain and injury than hot branding and carries a lower risk of infection.
A photo, a scan or a rough sketch is enough. We reply with a quote inside 24 hours.
Stroke weight and spacing are adjusted so the brand stays legible as hair grows in.
Brass holds cold evenly and takes hot branding too. Two to three working days.
Pack the iron in liquid nitrogen or dry ice, then hold it to a clipped, clean patch.
